OBITUARY OF EDWIN H. JENSEN
Edwin Herman Jensen, the son of Walter and Martine Sorensen Jensen, was born March 6, 1924, at his parents home near Brayton, Iowa and died March 5, 2008, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 29 days.
Edwin was baptized in the Lutheran Church. He attended Oakfield Academy near Brayton, Iowa. He then helped operate the family farm. Edwin enlisted in the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He was honorably discharged and returned to Exira. Ed then was employed as a truck driver for George Bauer, hauling livestock.
On April 9, 1949, he was united in marriage to Norabelle P. Christensen in Maryville, MO. They had three children. He continued driving for George. In 1982 they moved to Griswold, Iowa and drove a Ready Mix truck for the Griswold Ready Mix. In 1985 they moved south of Atlantic and Ed was employed as a Ready Mix driver for Allied Construction. Norabelle died August 26, 1985. Ed continued to drive for Allied Construction until 1994. Ed then purchased the Western Tavern in Atlantic. He operated the Bar for several years, then sold it and retired. Ed enjoyed his home, then moved to the Exira Care Center on September 1, 2007. Ed enjoyed playing cards and going for walks.
Preceding him in death in addition to his wife were his son-in-law Paul Walter; his parents; his brothers and sisters: Donald Jensen, Alfred Jensen, Clara Jensen, Lydia Graham, Laura Albertsen, Marion Jensen, Elsie Chisum, Helen Petersen, and Martha Jensen.
Survivors include his children: Connie Walter; Edwin and Edwina Jensen; Gary and Elaine Jensen, all of Atlantic, IA; his grandchildren: Tamara and Steven Mitchell of Gilbert, IA; Jason and Tammi Jensen of Elk Horn, IA; Scott and Amber Jensen of Atlantic; Gina and Dave Wesson of Omaha, NE; his great-grandchildren: Dustin Kirk and Cheyenne Kirk both of Gilbert; Hannah Jensen of Elk Horn; Olivia Jensen of Atlantic; his sister Sylvia Brown of California; his sister-in-law Annabelle Michaelsen of Yale, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Honorary casket bearer will be Dustin Kirk. Casket bearers will be Scott Jensen, Jason Jensen, Dallas Munch, Ron Graham, Morris Michaelsen, and Dave Wesson.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery.
Military Graveside Services will be conducted by Ballou Post No. 332, American Legion, Exira, IA.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends at 12:30 P.M. Saturday at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Leon Hodges on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, IA.
