Edwin "Ed" Willrich, 64, of Adair, Iowa passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2007, at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center.
Edwin Ernst Willrich was born on November 23, 1942, in a farm house north of Adair in Guthrie County, Iowa, the son of Karl and Anna (Eichthaler) Willrich.
Ed lived in the Adair community most of his life and graduated from Adair High School in 1960. After graduation he joined the United States Navy and served from October of 1960 until he was honorably discharged in December of 1963. While he was in the Navy he was a HM Hospital Man (Corpsman). After returning from the Navy he attended Clarinda Community College and graduated in 1965.
On June 12, 1966, he was married to Mary Porterfield at the First Christian Church in Hopkins, Missouri.
He worked for the Guthrie County Secondary Road Department for almost 25 years as well as farmed for 20 years. Ed's life job though was helping his family, friends and neighbors.
Ed was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Teamsters Local 238 -Guthrie County Secondary Road Department Union and enjoyed helping out the Adair County Conservation Association.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, playing Texas Holdem, and truck driving. Ed was always up for a conversation and telling jokes. He always took the time for his family and enjoyed the vacations that they took together. Ed's passion though was his ability to help others.
Ed is survived by his wife, Mary of Adair, Iowa; son, Brad Willrich and his wife, Becky of Anita, Iowa; daughter, Marci Willrich of Adair, Iowa; grandchildren, Tyler and Brody Willrich of Stuart, Iowa; brother, Fred Willrich and his wife, Jill of Boone, Iowa; sister, Bonnie Fenimore and her husband, Charles of West Des Moines, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Anna Willrich.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2007, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Adair.
Burial will be in the Dalmanutha Cemetery in Casey, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 12- 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2007, with the family to greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair.
Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair is in charge of the arrangements.
