Edwina Umphress

Edwina Gayle Umphress, 63, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center, in Atlantic.

She was born on July 28, 1951, the daughter of Edwin and Martha (Gregory) Umphress, in Fort Worth, Texas. Gayle was raised in River Oaks, TX, and graduated from Castlebury High School in 1969.

Gayle was united into marriage to Charles Ray Edwards, Sr. on November 1, 1968. To this union her only child, Charles Jr. was born. On April 12, 1997, Gayle married Donald Menard. Gayle worked for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing as a purchasing agent. She traveled the world doing a job she loved. Gayle and Donald moved to Atlantic in the summer of 2013 so she could be closer to her family.

She is survived by her husband, Donald of Atlantic, IA; her son, Charles Edwards Jr. and wife Dawn of Atlantic; five grandchildren, Charles Edwards III and wife Monica, Michael Edwards, Kassidy Edwards (Michael Armstrong), Nicholas Edwards and Samantha Edwards; three great-grandchildren, Celeste and Ryan Edwards and Olivia Armstrong; her step-mother, Kathleen Umphress of Valliant, OK; her sisters, Kathy Halcomb and Winona Vaughn both of Valliant, OK, and Sharon King of Rome, NY.

A celebration of life and gathering of family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015, at her son's home, 900 Laurel Street, Atlantic, Iowa.
