Elise Marie Johansen, the daughter of Peter L. and Ida Khynn Petersen, was born December 17, 1916 at her parents home near Exira, Iowa and died May 18, 2008 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 1 day.
Elise was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church west of Exira, Iowa. She attended rural schools near her home. Elise then did domestic care for other people.
In June of 1937, she was united in marriage to Leo Johansen. Four children were born to this union. Elise was a homemaker for many years when the children were young. In 1945, they started farming near Sharon Township, Audubon County, Iowa. Elise helped on the farm and enjoyed raising chickens and geese. Leo died December 2, 1971. Elise lived on the farm until 1973 when she moved into Audubon. She worked as a baby sitter for family and friends. She moved to the Friendship Village then moved to the Friendship Home in June of 2005.
Elise was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton, Iowa. She enjoyed making quilts, knitting and crocheting.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband Leo Johansen; her daughter Sharlot Christensen; her grandchildren: Gina Bruun and Joni Bruun; her brothers and sisters: Eva Purcell, Vernon Petersen, Lorraine Larsen, Donald Petersen and Glen Petersen.
Survivors include her children: Shari Bruun of Camas, WA; Eugene and wife Mary Lou Johansen of Audubon, IA; Charles and wife Martha Johansen of Longmont, CO; her son-in-law: Dale Christensen of Atlantic, IA; her 11 grandchildren: Tami and husband Fred Bridge of Washougal, WA; Greg and wife Carolyn Bruun of Audubon; Troy and wife Kristi Bruun of Witchita, KS; Lisa and husband Steve Noble of Grimes, IA; Krista and husband Scott Small of Atlantic, IA; Lori and husband Chris Burgess of Urbandale, IA; Casey and wife Kathy Johansen of New Milford, CT; Chris and wife Jill Johansen of Dallas Center, IA; Rob and wife Sonia Johansen of Grimes, IA; Wesley Johansen of Longmont, CO; Nicki Johansen of Longmont, CO; 28 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; her brother and sister: Melvin and wife Virginia Petersen of Brayton, IA; Maxine Miller of Des Moines, IA; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Wednesday morning at 10:00 A.M until time of service at the Bethany Lutheran Church.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Tony D. Ede on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton, IA.
