Elizabeth Ann Rubel the daughter of Benjamin Don Parrott, Sr. and Evelyn Dora (Reuss) Parrott, was born on May 27, 1936, in Audubon county and died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Audubon, Iowa on October 30, 2018, at the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 13 days.
Elizabeth was baptized and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon where she remained a member throughout her life. She attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1954.
In 1954, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Leo Rubel and together they welcomed three children: Debra, Monte and Steven. She was a homemaker for much of the children’s lives, later going to work for Mid-American Energy as a secretary, from which she retired in 1999. She loved her time with the power company, especially working alongside her dear friend Carlene.
In her free time, Elizabeth enjoyed embroidery, Diet Cherry Coke, and attending the United Methodist’s Women’s Circle, which she lovingly called “square.” In recent years, her focus turned to crossword puzzles and caring for her beloved dog Penny, her neurotic rat terrier. Elizabeth also enjoyed attending church services, always sitting in her regular pew, next to her friend Bev England, never signing the register because, she said, “God knows that I was here.” The church will remember her accompanying Elaine Bowen on the violin on several occasions.
In 1980, 1981, 1983 and 2010, she and Leo welcomed their four grandchildren, who were their pride and joy, and like all good grandparents, they showered them with love, attention and support.
Elizabeth was devastated by the passing of her dear husband in 2001, but she took life one day at a time and kept the home they shared until the time of her death.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her grandson Aaron Kyle Rubel; her cherished daughter-in-law Melodie Rubel; her parents and grandparents; her brother Benjamin Don Parrott, Jr.; and her brother-in-law Albert Rubel, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter Debra and husband Greg Williams of Atlantic, Iowa; her sons Monte Rubel of Atlantic, Iowa and Steven Rubel of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren Ashley and husband Ben Sponsler of Ankeny, Iowa; Chris and wife Nikki Williams of Johnston, Iowa; Amber and husband Paul Raak of Carroll, Iowa; and Brooklyn Rubel of Oakland, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren with two on the way; her sisters-in-law Sandra and husband Alvie Bald of Audubon, Iowa, and Shirley Rubel of Atlantic, Iowa, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will meet with friends Friday evening November 2, 2018 from 5:00p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be conducted by Pastor Kathy Kluis on Saturday morning, November 3, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The casket bearers will be Chris Williams, Greg Williams, Paul Raak, Rod Benton, Mark Richards, and Kevin Christensen.
