Elmore Ludwig

Elmore C. "Skinny" Ludwig, 95, of Greenfield, Iowa, and formerly of Casey, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at the Greenfield Manor in Greenfield.

Elmore Carl Ludwig was born on January 6, 1913, on the family farm in Guthrie County, Iowa, the son of Orie and Gracie (Heinicker) Ludwig.

Elmore lived in Guthrie and Adair County almost his entire life.

He was united in marriage to Mary Dora Crawley on December 11, 1935, at the Methodist Parsonage in Guthrie Center, Iowa.

Elmore served his country in the United States Army from 1943-1945 in World War II. In his later years he had the opportunity to revisit Pearl Harbor.

He enjoyed fishing. Some of his fondest memories were his surprise 50th Wedding Anniversary party, 60th Wedding Anniversary limo ride, and 90th Birthday celebration.

Elmore is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Dora of Casey, Iowa; three daughters, Martha Olsen and her husband, Jerry of Des Moines, Iowa, Opal Ludwig of Ankeny, Iowa, and Carol Woolheater of Des Moines, Iowa; four sons, Carl Ludwig and his wife, Carol of Severna Park, Maryland, Wayne Ludwig and his wife, Karol of West Des Moines, Iowa, Rex Ludwig and his wife, Florence of Minden, Nevada, and George Ludwig and his wife, Carmen of Cadiz, Spain; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Orie and Gracie Ludwig; four brothers; three sisters; and a son-in-law.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair with Reverend Luke Zimmerman of St. John's Lutheran Church in Casey, Iowa, officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair.

Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Casey, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the Adair County Memorial Hospital or the Greenfield Manor.
