Elsie M. Porsch

Elsie Mozella Porsch, the daughter of Charles and Marie (Dahlke) Avey, was born October 12, 1918, at her parent’s home east of Hamlin, Iowa and died February 18, 2014, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 4 months, and 6 days. Elsie was baptized April 6, 1919, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa and confirmed May 24, 1932, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. She attended rural school in Greeley Township; Audubon County then attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1936. Later she graduated from Drake University on August 13, 1969, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Following High School, Elsie taught rural school in Audubon County for five years. On May 28, 1942, she was united in marriage to Herman Adolph Porsch at the Trinity Lutheran Church northwest of Audubon. Two children Marvin Jo and Judith were born to this union. They farmed near Gray, Iowa for a short time then purchased a farm in Greeley Township Audubon County. During this time, Elsie was a home maker raising their children and helping Herman operate the farm. They sold the farm in 1969 and moved into Audubon. Elsie was employed at Kearney Pharmacy for a short time then returned to teaching. She taught second grade in Guthrie Center, Iowa then taught fourth grade in Exira, Iowa until she retired in 1980. During retirement Elsie and Herman enjoyed their grandchildren and taking each one on a special trip. Also they enjoyed spending several winters in Florida. Herman died on July 12, 1985. Elsie enjoyed her home then later moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in 2009. Elsie was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa where she was also active in the Ladies Circles. She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible School during the summers. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Herman; her daughter Judith Porsch; her parents; her brother Clarence and wife Colleen Avey; and her sisters Mae and husband Virgil Hilsabeck, Wynona and husband Weir (Scoop) Peterson, and Marie and her husbands Danny Parker and Arnold Nissen. Survivors include her son Jo and wife Sally Porsch of Audubon, Iowa[ her grandchildren Angie and husband Terry Siedelmann of Audubon, Joel and wife Sherry Porsch of Kimballton, Iowa, Tracy and husband John Burns of Crescent, Iowa, and Travis and wife Colleen Porsch of Audubon; her great grandchildren Nick Siedelmann of Linden, Iowa, Brandy Siedelmann and fiancé Chris Miller of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ashley Porsch of Audubon, Katie Porsch and Kasey Porsch both of Kimballton, Jessica Mulford of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Cole Burns and Samantha Burns both of Crescent, Jerod and wife Brooke Burns of Kellogg, Iowa, Justin and wife Abby Burns of Carroll, Iowa, Derek Porsch and Jordan Porsch both of Audubon; 8 great great grandchildren; nieces; nephews other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Friday evening from 6:30 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Gordon Buchholz on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 10:30 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
