Elsie Mae Saltmarsh was born July 28, 1919, in Superior, Wisconsin, to Arthur Earl and Alma Lorraine (DeBord) Saltmarsh and passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the Cass County Hospice Center in Atlantic, Iowa.
As a young child, her family moved to Cass County where she resided for the rest of her life.
Elsie first attended country school, then entered Marne school, ultimately leaving to seek employment.
Elsie spent over 60 years working and caring for the elderly. She owned and managed the Miller Retirement Home in Atlantic and a nursing home in Griswold.
In 1939 she married Ivro Anderson in Maryville, Missouri. Five children where born to this union. On December 27, 1962, Elsie married Cecil Miller in Papillion, Nebraska. Cecil passed away of cancer in 1979.
Elsie enjoyed working, playing cards, cooking, sewing and spending time outdoors. Family gatherings and spending time with her family was what she loved most.
She was preceded in death by both her husbands, Ivro Anderson and Cecil Miller; her parents, Arthur and Alma Saltmarsh; her sister, Margie Wesseldine; her brothers, Charles and Morton Saltmarsh; her infant son, Eldon Ray Anderson; and her grandson-in-law, Richard Brown.
Surviving Elsie are her children, Gary (Judy) Anderson of Atlantic, IA, Denney (Janiece) Anderson of Visaila, CA, Kathy (Chuck) Arndt of Johnston, IA and Cynthia (Gary) Zinke of Atlantic, IA; her grandchildren, Rick (Sharon) Anderson of Brayton, IA, Jeff (Carol) Anderson of Atlantic, IA. Mike (Kim) Anderson of Atlantic, IA, Todd (Kim) Anderson of Charlotte, NC, Rick Anderson of Atlantic, IA, Wade (Tracy Burke) of Round Rock, TX, Michelle (David) Bollin of Iowa Park, TX, Yvonne (Vince) Canova of Granger, IA, Nicole (Jason) White of Moline, IL, Seth (Lindsay) Westfall of Newell, IA, and Tiffany Brown of Des Moines, IA; 23 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert Saltmarsh (Darlene) of SD; numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2011, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic.
Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., prior to the funeral, also at Hockenberry's. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery, Atlantic.
Memorials may be directed to the Cass County Hospice Center, Atlantic, Iowa.
