Emmert Arnold Hansen

February 23, 1920 — June 10, 2008

Emmert Arnold Hansen, the son of Sam and Anna Pedersen Hansen, was born February 23, 1920, in Viola Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died June 10, 2008, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 17 days.
Emmert was baptized in the Lutheran Church. He attended rural schools in Audubon County and Guthrie County, IA. He then helped operate the family farm. In 1941 he was inducted into the Army Air Force in which he attained the rank of Sergeant. During his tour of duty he served in Harlingen, Texas and in the Aleutian Campaign at Adak Station and Anchorage, Alaska.
On July 15, 1944, he was united in marriage to Audrey J. Humphries in Weslaco, Texas. Audrey was discharged on December 18, 1945, and Emmert was discharged on January 6, 1946. They returned to the Audubon area where he farmed and fed cattle in Viola Township for 31 years. In 1984 he retired and they moved into his present home in Audubon. Audrey died December 21, 1998.
Emmert drove his red Chevy S-10 pickup around town and enjoyed road farming. He also enjoyed taking short but profitable trips to Sloan, Iowa.
Preceding him in death in addition to his wife were his parents; his brothers: Harold Hansen, Henry Hansen, and John Hansen; his sister Elizabeth Hansen; his brothers-in-law: August Owen and Gus Leader; and his sister-in-law Vera Gwin.
Survivors include his son Burdell and Roxane Hansen of Audubon, IA; his grandsons: Burdell Hansen, Jr. (B.J.) of Kansas City, MO; and Brad Hansen of Ames, IA; his sisters: Elaine Owen of Audubon and Martha Leader of Bellevue, NE; his brother-in-law Charles and Jeanne Humphries of Ft. Wayne, IN; his sister-in-law Elsie Hansen of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Burial will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Thursday evening at 7:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
There will be a private family service at a later date.
