Erick John Jorgensen, the son of Hans P. and Carrie (Christensen) Jorgensen, was born November 23, 1937, on his parents’ farm near Kimballton, Iowa and died March 15, 2016 at his home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 3 months, and 22 days.
Erick John was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. He attended Audubon County rural schools then helped operate the family farm and drove truck for his father.
On December 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Audrey Christensen at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. Three children Peggy, J.D. and Troy were born to this union. Erick John farmed for a short time then in 1963 was employed as a mechanic for many years at the International Harvester Implement dealer in Exira and later in Audubon when the dealership moved to Audubon. He then worked for Audubon County as a heavy equipment operator until he retired. During his working years Erick John also operated his own tractor repair business. Audrey died August 30, 2007.
Erick John had been a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. He enjoyed having coffee at the Chatterbox Café. He loved to spend time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death in addition to his beloved wife Audrey; were his granddaughters Tori Spencer and Whitney Jorgensen; his grandson-in-law Kip Spencer; his parents H.P. and Carrie Jorgensen; his brothers and sisters H.P. Jorgensen, Jr., Geneva and husband LaVern Krauel, Lloyd Jorgensen, Yvonne and Keith Staples, Sharlene and husband Mike Jensen, and Patricia Schurer; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Benjamin and Marie Christensen,; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lyle “Louie” Murray, Gordon Wealch, Benjamin Lee Christensen, and Darrell Christensen.
Survivors include his children; Peggy and husband John Weighton and J.D. and wife Amy Jorgensen all of Audubon, Iowa, and Troy and wife Julie Jorgensen of Humboldt, Iowa; his grandchildren Trisha and husband Jeff Nielsen if Audubon, Iowa, Jesse and wife Kristina Jorgensen of Manning, Iowa, Billie and husband B.J. Byerly of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Trent and wife Trang Jorgensen of Ankeny, Iowa, Benjamin and wife Sierra Jorgensen of Humboldt, Iowa, Lacy Jorgensen of Mason City, Iowa, and Robbie Jorgensen of Humboldt, Iowa; 10 great grandchildren; Gage Spencer and Hannah Spencer both of Audubon, Iowa, Adrianne Nielsen of West Des Moines Iowa, Jayden Nielsen, Katelyn Nielsen, Ely Jorgensen and Harper Jorgensen all of Audubon, Iowa, Lillian Jorgensen of Manning, Iowa, Brody Byerly and Skye Byerly both of Coon Rapids, Iowa; his brothers and sisters Franklin and wife Carol Jorgensen of Audubon, Iowa, Virginia and husband Norbert Stoberl of Manning, Iowa. Beatrice Wealch of Audubon, Iowa, Darvin and wife Nadene Jorgensen of Exira, Iowa, and Marlene and husband Kent Walters of Audubon, Iowa; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Jane Jorgensen and Shirley Jorgensen both of Audubon, Iowa, Mick Schurer of Lawrence, Kansas, Terry and wife Etta Lee Christensen of Lake Manawa Iowa, Joyce Christensen of Brayton, Iowa, Andy and wife Sue Christensen of Exira, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviours’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers will be Peggy Weighton, J.D. Jorgensen, Troy Jorgensen, Franklin Jorgensen, Tim Wahlert, and Bill Nelson. The casket bearers will be Jesse Jorgensen, Trent Jorgensen, Benjamin Jorgensen, Jeff Nielsen, Frank Jorgensen, and John Staples. The family will meet with friends Friday evening March 18, 2016, at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
