Ernest J. Jipp, 87, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa.
Ernest John Jipp, the son of Ernest J.H. (John) and Sophia Mathilda (Ficken) Jipp, was born December 27, 1920, at the home of his parents in Adair, Iowa. At the age of two years he moved with his parents to the family farm west of Adair in Guthrie County. He received his education at Grant Township #9 School. After his schooling, he farmed with his dad.
Ernest was baptized January 30, 1921, at home by Reverend Otto Kohn of Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed March 27, 1934, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair by Reverend Theo Hoemann. He was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair.
On June 29, 1952, Ernest married Margaret Bernette Woods at the Methodist Church in Atlantic, Iowa. They bought the family farm and lived there until moving to Adair in 1979. They continued to farm, and in 1984 they sold the farm and retired. Bernette passed away May 3, 2001. They were the parents of one son, Stephen Charles Jipp.
Ernest was an active member in the Walther League as a youth, was a board member of the Little Cherubs Nursery School, was on the church council for several years and secretary of Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery for 20 years and a life long member of the Peace Haven Retirement Home in Walnut, Iowa.
Ernest is survived by his son, Stephen Jipp and his wife, Sherry, of Fairfield, Iowa; one grandson, Christian Jipp of Fairfield, Iowa; 2 great-granddaughters, Ashley and Britney Ruhr of Atlantic, Iowa; 1 sister, Bessie Johnk, of Atlantic, Iowa; 1 brother-in-law, Roy Ellerhoff, of Tipton, Iowa; 4 step-grandchildren; 9 step-greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sophia Jipp; his wife, M. Bernette Jipp; 2 grandsons, Craig and Harley Ruhr; his sister, Eldora Ellerhoff; brother-in-law, Kenneth Johnk; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lucille and Marvin Conrad.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 21, 2008, in the Immanuel Lutheran Chruch in Adair, Iowa, with the Reverend Leon Hodges officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral, also in the church. The family invites friends to a luncheon in the church fellowship hall following the committal service.
