Eugene Leroy Potter, the son of Alfred Minter and Marlene Marie (Nolte) Potter, was born September 21, 1958, at Grant Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He died April 5, 2016, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 57 years, 6 months, and 14 days.
Eugene was baptized at the Lutheran Church in McHenry, Illinois. He attended McHenry Elementary School and High School. Eugene worked in the factory line making parts for the A.B. Dick Company for several years. He then worked for a company that made plastic basement window coverings and later worked for Grayfield Company in Carey, Illinois until he had to retire due to his failing health. Eugene lived in Love’s Park, Illinois until moving to Atlantic, Iowa in November of 2004. He then moved with his family to Audubon, Iowa in November of 2006.
Eugene was an avid reader and had read the Bible many times. He enjoyed camping and traveling across the country to visit his many friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his father Alfred M. Potter; his maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents; his aunts Kathy Chisholm and Judy Swope; and his uncle Don Nolte.
Survivors include his partner Clifford Shady; his mother Marlene Potter; his sister Deb Lightfoot all of Audubon, Iowa; his aunt and uncles Doris and husband Bob Evans of Elliot, Iowa and Melvin Potter of Port Orchard, Washington; his “adopted son” Eugene Hart of Corpus Christi, Texas; many cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Royal D. Carleton, of the Inclusive Life Center in Omaha, Nebraska, on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Silver City Cemetery in Silver City, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Terry Shady, Brandon Crane, Kenneth Evans, Gale Butler, Jeremy Butler, Gary Bertelsen, and Kent Anderson. The family will meet with friends Friday evening at 5:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
