Evelyn Lang

December 31, 1920 — April 3, 2013

Evelyn Marie Lang was born December 31, 1920, the daughter of Henry and Prudence Rebekah (Cushing) Osbahr near Shelby, Iowa, and passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.

She attended school at Walnut Grove Country School until she was 9. At that time her parents passed away and she went to live with her uncle and aunt, Emil and Minnie Osbahr, attending school in Persia through the 8th grade.


Evelyn worked at various restaurants in Avoca until her marriage to Robert Lang on October 4, 1938, at the SS Peter and Paul parsonage in Atlantic. She then dedicated her time to caring for her husband, children and home.

Evelyn was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.

Robert and Evelyn enjoyed having coffee and conversation at HyVee. Evelyn always had a garden and enjoyed crocheting and doing latch hook, but her favorite pastime was watching TV, especially soap operas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Henry and Prudence Osbahr; her daughter, Barb Smith; her grandchildren, Russell Meyer, Michael Waters and Kenneth Smith; her sons-in-law, Daniel Waters and Kenneth Meyer; her sister, Ada Stolz; and her brothers, Henry, Harold, Orville, Merel and Lloyd Osbahr.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Carol Waters of Wiota, Sandy Meyer of Aurora, CO, Patty Baxter of Gilbert, AZ and Craig Lang of Atlantic; her grandchildren, Randy Smith, Stuart Smith, Rob Seamands of Grimes, Julie (Darrin) Plowman of Adair, Scott Baxter of Spring Hill, KS and Robyn Brundage of Urbandale; her great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Kennedy and Cole Plowman of Adair, Mykal Greene of Cedar Falls, Jonah Junio of Christina Lake, B.C., Canada, and Chase and Cameron Brundage of Urbandale; her sister, Helen Dea of Shelby; her brother, Dean Krutzfeldt of Council Bluffs; her sister-in-law, Trinidad Osbahr; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

Burial will be in the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery with lunch following in Hockenberry's Community Room.
