Evelyn Schwartz

January 8, 1922 — March 1, 2009

Evelyn Schwartz, 87, of Atlantic, Iowa, formerly of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic, Iowa.

Evelyn Isabelle Lutz was born January 8, 1922, the daughter of William Albert and Ethel Bird (Cook) Lutz in Tripp, South Dakota.

On June 19, 1942, she married Kenneth Lloyd Schwartz in Chadron, Nebraska. Two children were born to this union. The couple lived in Rapid City, South Dakota, for 45 years before moving to Atlantic, Iowa, in May of 2003.

Evelyn's family will remember her as an honest, loving and caring person. They have never known anyone so kind. Her family was her world and she delighted in serving them. She loved to cook and entertain, always welcoming guests into her home. When overnight company stayed, she would make breakfast two or three times each morning so that everyone could wake up to a hot meal. She found delight in the everyday things such as her grandchildren's fingerprints on the sliding glass door, which she would not want to wipe away. Evelyn and Kenneth enjoyed the time spent together and with their family, dancing, going to parties and dressing up for Halloween to greet the trick or treaters.

Evelyn was a member of the South Maple United Methodist Church in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Surviving Evelyn are her children, Charles (Barb) Schwartz of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Margene Hill of Atlantic, IA; her grandchildren, Richard (Michelle) Hill of Schaumburg, IL, Nadine Hill (Micah) Jessen of Exira, IA, Tony (Kirsten) Hill of Minneapolis, MN, Tessa Hill (David) Acker of Aurora, Il, Matthew Schwartz of Sioux Falls, SD, and Mara Schwartz of Orlando, FL; her great-grandchildren, Alec, Marcus and Abby Hill of Schaumberg, IL, Amanda, Steve and Monica Jessen of Exira, IA, Madeline, Erik and Kai Hill of Minneapolis, MN, and Ben Acker of Aurora, IL; several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth; her parents, William and Ethel Lutz; her son-in-law, Kay Russell Hill; her brothers, Elmer, Clarence, Francis, Richard and Albert Lutz; and her sisters, Florence Wait and Genevieve Jirsa.
