Florence Irene Staub

Florence Irene Staub, the daughter of Chris and Emma (Thygesen) Hansen was born on December 11, 1918, at her parents’ home near Kimballton, Iowa, and died January 4, 2015, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa, at the age of 96 years and 23 days.
Florence was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton. She attended rural school in Leroy Township and Sharon Center. Florence then cleaned homes and was employed as a waitress at the Victory Café. Later she worked at the Federated Store and the Audubon Produce.
On October 13, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lester Arthur “Joe” Staub in Maryville, Missouri. One daughter Karen was born to this union. During WWII Joe was stationed in England. Florence moved to Burlington, Iowa and worked at the ammunition plant for a short time then returned to work in Audubon. Florence was a homemaker for several years after their daughter Karen was born. She later was employed at the Audubon Elementary school as a cook until she retired. During retirement Florence and Joe enjoyed babysitting their granddaughter Katie. They enjoyed their home then in 2007 they moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon. Joe died April 24, 2008.
Florence was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, and embroidery. Florence also enjoyed canning all the produce that Joe would bring home from his garden.
Preceding her in death was her husband Lester A. “Joe” Staub; her parents; her brothers: Milo Hansen and Roland and wife Rosemary Hansen; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Martin Nielsen, Leonard and wife Bernice Staub, Marie and husband Leo Hurley, Arnold Staub, Margaret and husband Max Yocum, Marciel and husband Robert Easton, Maejean and husband John Danover, Leo and wife Patsy Staub, and Don Taylor.
Survivors include her daughter Karen and husband Bill McGuire of Audubon, Iowa; her granddaughter Dr. Katie Paulus and husband Dusten of Spencer, Iowa; her great grandson Gabriel Paulus of Spencer, Iowa; her sister Bertha Mae Nielsen of Audubon Iowa; her sisters-in-law Mardell Hansen of Audubon, Iowa, Maxine Green of Burlington, Iowa and Phyllis Staub of Ottumwa, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The casket bearers will be Bill McGuire, Dusten Paulus, Jerry Lange, Tom Garber, Richard Hansen, and Russell Joyce. The family will meet with friends Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
