Floyd H. Bannick, 92, a life-long Cumberland, Iowa, farmer, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa.
Floyd Henry Bannick was born October 22, 1914, on Grandma Ufken's farm in Franklin Township of Cass County, Iowa, the son of Henry John and Emma Helena (Ufken) Bannick. At his age of one, they moved to the present family farm three and a half miles Northeast of Cumberland, Iowa.
He graduated from the eighth grade on April 23, 1926, at District No. 4, Massena Township, Cass County, Iowa. And then graduated from the Cumberland High School in 1930.
On April 6, 1938, Floyd married Hazel Nellie Sager at the First Evangelical Lutheran parsonage by the Reverend E.J. Stelling and was attended by Jack and Elizabeth Kenny of Schaller, Iowa.
Floyd was a life-long member of the First Lutheran Church, south of Wiota.
He dedicated and spent his life farming the family farm he moved to at age one.
Floyd was known as a hard worker, a good neighbor, and a loyal friend.
He left the farm in November of 2004, moving to Omaha, Nebraska. On February 18, 2005, Floyd moved to the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa
He is survived by his two daughters, Sharlene Sanny and her husband, Don of Lewis, Iowa, and Gloria Butler of Indianola, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jody Allumbaugh and her husband, Greg of Lewis, Iowa, Greg Sanny and his wife, Kathy of Gravette, Arkansas, Cindy Sanny of Carson, Iowa, Angie Carlton and her husband, Mark of Griswold, Iowa, and Kristine Butler of St. Paul, Minnesota. Three great-grandchildren also survive, Emma Allumbaugh of Lewis, Iowa, Ryan Taylor and McKenna Carlton, of Grisowld, Iowa; as well as five step great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother, Elmer Bannick of Forrest Grove, Oregon.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Henry J. and Emma Bannick; Hazel Sager Bannick; one son, Gary Bannick; a grandson, Jeffrey Sanny and a sister-in-law, Marie Bannick.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2007, at the First Lutheran Church, south of Wiota, with the Reverend Ted Weishaupt officiating.
Public visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., Friday, with the family present to greet friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hockenberrys.
Committal services and interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, followed by fellowship and lunch in the fellowship hall at First Lutheran Church.
The family is requesting that memorials go to the First Lutheran Church, Wiota, Iowa, in Floyd's memory and his dedication to the church.
