Folmer Bernhardt Walters, the son of Mads and Marie Esbeck Walters, was born August 19, 1910 at his parents home north and east of Kimballton, Ia and died September 25, 2008 at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 6 days.
Folmer was baptized at a Lutheran church in Poplar, Ia. and confirmed April 27, 1929 at the Immanuel Lutheran church in Kimballton. He attended rural schools near Kimballton then helped operate the family farm with his brothers.
On April 10, 1937 he was united in marriage to Frances A. Andersen at the Congregational Church in Atlantic, IA. They operated several farms in the Audubon County area until they retired from farming. They moved into Audubon in 1960. Folmer worked for Emmert Manufacturing for a short time, then worked as a carpenter for Christensen Brothers Construction until he retired at age 76. During retirement Folmer and Frances enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, but most of all enjoyed his grandchildren. Frances died August 21, 2005. A short time later, Folmer, moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon.
Folmer was member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. He enjoyed socializing and spending time with his Saturday morning coffee group. He also enjoyed dancing with Frances.
Preceding him in death in addition to his wife were his son-in-law William Boust; his parents; his brothers and sisters: Anna and Viggo Jacobsen, Meta and Louis Brown; Henry Walters; Harry and Selma Walters; and Verner Walters; his brothers-in-law: Edvald Jorgensen; Raymond and Eunice Andersen; and Selma and Charles Klinkefus.
Survivors include his children: Gary and Delores Walters of Audubon, IA; Kathryn and Jim Martin of Atlantic, IA; Judy and Gary Duffield of Ft. Dodge, IA; Joan and Gary Miller of Guthrie Center, IA; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; his sister: Gladys Jorgensen of Atlantic; his sisters-in-law: Nina Walters of Anita, IA; Flay Walters of Audubon; his brothers-in-law: Donald and Dixie Andersen of Irwin, IA; Richard and Bonnie Andersen of Homer, AK; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Saturday evening at 6:00 at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Christopher Martin on Sunday, September 28, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon.
