Forrest (Pap) Clyde LaFoy, the son of Forrest Pearl and Hazel (Miller) LaFoy, was born June 7, 1929, at his parents home in Leroy Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died May 21, 2009, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 11 months, and 14 days.
Pap was baptized on June 25, 1954, and became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon on February 22, 1968. He attended rural schools, then attended Audubon High School. Pap then worked with creameries as a quality control tester. On September 7, 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he served in Okinawa, Japan and was a radio operator/intercept operator. He was honorably discharged on July 15, 1952, and returned to the Audubon area. He then enjoyed going on the wheat harvest for a few years.
In 1954 he was united in marriage to Ione Andersen at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. Three children Randy, Donna and Denise were born to this union. Pap farmed with this brother Chuck for several years, then joined his brother Sam at the Hamlin Produce where he was part-owner. He bought into Andersen-LaFoy Trucking and Corn Shelling business. Ione died on September 20, 1965. Pap continued trucking for several more years.
On June 24, 1966, he married Lenore Stiles at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. They blended their families together adding Michael and Mary Jo. Pap then worked at Audubon Feed and Milling for several years. He owned and operated a tavern Paps Place After selling the tavern, he farmed for a few years. Pap worked for Sornsons John Deere and Audubon Oil in the parts department. Pap had a massive heart attack in 1985, then medically retired and became a full time grandpa baby-sitter for the grandchildren. On December 2, 1991, Pap received a heart transplant and later a kidney transplant in 2000. He enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and fishing.
Pap was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon where he had served as a deacon. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Audubon.
Preceding him in death were his wife Ione LaFoy; his parents; his brothers and their wives: Chuck and Gloria LaFoy and Sam and Frances LaFoy; his infant brother; his brother-in-law Emery Bertelsen; his fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law: T.R., Sr. and Cecelia Andersen and Willard and Lula Oakley; his brothers-in-law: Richard Campbell and Dean Cramer.
Survivors include his wife Lenore LaFoy of Audubon, IA; his children: Michael and Deb Stiles of Sioux City, IA; Mary Jo and Michael Krauel; Randy and Penny LaFoy, all of Audubon; Donna and Ron Whitaker of Kansas City, MO; Denise England of Cairo, Egypt; his grandchildren: Kristin and Brad Broberg of Waukee, IA; Amy and Dan McEntaffer of Clive, IA; Clint and Becky Stiles of Grimes, IA; McKenzie Krauel of Audubon; Jeanette LaFoy of Wiesloch, Germany; Brandi and Matt Kraft of Audubon; Ashley and Joe Hartl of Audubon; Stephanie and Steve Snyder of Manning, IA; Brandon LaFoy of Audubon; Zach and Keri Whitaker of Kansas City, MO; Kyle and Kim Whitaker of Kearney, MO; Adam Whitaker of Kansas City, MO; Luke and Lesley England of Portland, ME; Ben England and special friend Jaime Struve of Des Moines, IA; 20 great-grandchildren: his sister Ardyth Bertelsen of Audubon; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: T.R. Andersen, Jr.; Loretta Campbell, both of Audubon; Donna Cramer of Iowa City, IA; Chuck and Donna Oakley of Phoenix, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Casket Bearers will be his grandsons: Zach Whitaker, Kyle Whitaker, Luke England, Clint Stiles, Adam Whitaker, Ben England, and Brandon LaFoy.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.
Visitation:
The Family will meet with friends on Friday evening, May 22, 2009,at 6:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Kay E. Steddom on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa.
