Frances Olive Carter

Frances Olive Carter, the daughter of John Michael and Alice Olive Gardner Renftle was born February 28, 1924, at her parents’ home in Audubon, Iowa and died January 31, 2012 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 7 days. Frances was baptized at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. Frances attended elementary school in Audubon. Her family then moved to a farm in Greeley Township, Audubon County, Iowa where she attended rural school. She then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1942. Frances taught rural school in Greeley, Hamlin, and Melville townships. She then took a job in Chicago with the Civil Service during World War II. After the war she returned to Audubon. She then was employed at the Triple A office in Audubon and she also worked for Lyle Monahan at ABC Finance in Audubon. On November 27, 1949 she was united in marriage to Richard Hamlin Carter. Two children Dennis Richard and Douglas Dean were born to this union. They moved to Frances’s parents farm in Greeley Township which they eventually purchased. Frances continued to substitute teach and helped operate the family farm. In February of 1980 they made their home in Audubon. She worked as a cook at the Friendship Home and also cleaned at Landmands Bank in Audubon. Frances and Richard moved to the Friendship Home in September of 2008. Richard died November 5, 2010. Frances was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. She was member of the American Auxiliary in Audubon. Her faith and love of her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the center of her life. Preceding her in death was her husband Richard H. Carter; her parents; her brother John Renftle; and her brother-in-law Art Erickson. Survivors include her children: Dennis and wife Cindy Carter of Hamlin, Iowa; Doug and wife Betsy Carter of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jerry and wife Ann Carter of Audubon; Jill and husband Mark Notz of Ankeny, Iowa; Greg Carter of Audubon; Rachel and husband Steve Russell of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Mike and wife Jenna Carter of Farmington, Minnesota; her great grandchildren: Olivia and Vincent Carter; Brody and Bennett Notz; Dylan Carter; and Zoey Russell; her sisters-in-law: Martha Renftle of Indianola, Iowa; Faye Erickson of Exira, Iowa; Janice and husband Don Andersen of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Jud Stover on Friday, February 3, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa.
