Frances Bernice Richter, 87, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Caring Acres Nursing & Rehab in Anita, Iowa.

She was born December 2, 1926, in Wiota, Iowa, to Walter Raymond and Lena (Ballenseifer) Earl. Frances was raised in Wiota and graduated from Wiota High School. After graduation she enrolled in Duchesne College in Omaha, Nebraska, where she received her teaching degree. After graduating, Frances taught in Neola, Iowa, for one year.
On June 15, 1948, she was united in marriage to Richard Grant Richter at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wiota. Frances became a substitute teacher while raising her children and remained a substitute teacher for many years.

Frances was active at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita, IA. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the church organist and choir director for over 30 years and taught CCD classes. The church and her family were top priority for Frances. She prided herself in her independent spirit. Frances loved to sew, cook and read. Education was important to her and she believed it was important for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; and her sister, Margaret (Kenneth) Wedemeyer.

Frances is survived by her children, Timothy (Josi) Richter of Coupeville, WA, Allyn Ann (Larry) Krug of Long Grove, IA, Nick (Charlet) Richter of Omaha, NE, Cindy Richter of Bellevue, NE and Colette (Keith) Blake of Eldridge, IA; her grandchildren, Katti (Chris) Parker of Bettendorf, IA, Michaela (Josh) Trout of Omaha, NE, Taryn (Ryan) Shropshire of Olathe, KS, Kylie Richter and fiancé Josh Lujan of Denver, CO, Ana Richter of Billings, MT, Caroline Blake of Eldridge, IA, Samuel and Damian Richter of Omaha, NE; one great-grandson, Hunter Parker of Bettendorf, IA; her brother, Bernard J. (Betty) Earl of Omaha, NE; her sisters-in-law, Gae (Dwight) Kullbom of Elkhorn, NE and Carol Kenyon of Shenandoah, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A private family service has been planned.

Gifts will be used for the offering of memorial masses for Frances.
