Francis Dale Madsen

Francis “Fran” Dale Madsen, the son of Edward and Donavee (Dalgety) Madsen, was born October 29, 1948 in Carroll, Iowa and died November 5, 2017, at his home in Underwood, Iowa at the age 69 years and 7 days.

Fran was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. He attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1967. He then attended the University of Northern Iowa where he received his Bachelors of Science in Physical Education. Fran made his home in Council Bluffs, Iowa where he taught school for a few years before purchasing the Hide-A-Way- Lounge in Underwood.

In 1982, he was united in marriage to Shari Gallegos in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Two children Brandi and Josh were born to this union. Fran set out to both teach and coach them through their sports. He took great pride in owning his restaurant for over 20 years before selling it 2004. In his later years he enjoyed playing with his grandkids, cheering on his Dodgers, and entertaining his dog, Alice. His children will always remember him as a kind, funny, and laid back father.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his children: Brandi Madsen of Underwood, Iowa, Josh and (Katie) Madsen of Underwood, Iowa, his granddaughters: Kaylee and Kinsley Madsen both of Underwood; his brothers and sisters: Paul (Linda) Madsen of Saint Charles, Iowa, Alice (Jon) Lauridsen of Audubon, Iowa, Mary (Mike) McColloch of Redfield, Iowa, Karen (Steve) Goldman of Springfield, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Nate Mason on Friday, November 10, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. The family will meet with friends on Thursday evening November 9, 2017, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon. Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa at a later date. There will also be a Celebration of Life Memorial on Friday, November 10, 2017 at the I-80 Bar from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. in Underwood, Iowa. Casket bearers will be Mike McColloch, Jon Lauridsen, Steve Goldman, Ted Fritsch, Dan Masker, and Steve Fanslau.
