Freida L. Waters, 84, a longtime Atlantic resident, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2007, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Freida Lorraine Waters was born November 20, 1922, in Carlisle, Iowa, the daughter of Claude L. and Hazel E. (Dearing) Corzatt.

She graduated from the Carlisle High School in 1941.

On September 19, 1946, Freida married Hubert (Scotty) Wesley Waters in Pine City, Minnesota.

Freida lived in Carlisle, Des Moines and Marne, Iowa, before moving to Atlantic in 1958.
She was a welder, making bombs during WWII. While living in Atlantic, Freida did babysitting and worked at Walnut Grove. She was a member of the Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Pony Express.

Freida's door was always open and the coffee pot on. No one was ever a stranger. She loved family and friends as well as reading, art, dancing, playing cards, gardening, camping and fishing.

She is survived by her five sons, Gary Waters of Arizona, Michael Waters and his wife, Patti of Atlantic, Iowa, Greg and his wife, Jenny of Nelsons Bay, Australia, Kevin Waters of Atlantic, Iowa, and Scotty Waters and his wife, Linda of Atlantic, Iowa; two daughters, Patty (Patricia) Brown and her husband, Roger of House Springs, Missouri, and Dawn Smith of Atlantic, Iowa; two brothers, Claude Corzatt, Jr. of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Charles Corzatt and his wife, Sigrid of Vencenza, Italy. Also surviving Freida are her grandchildren, Chris Waters, Danielle Waters, Angela Clark, Amber Pattee, Tony Cabrera, Aubrey Waters, Matt Waters, Michelle Cabellero, Kayle Waters, Kolby Waters, Justin Waters, Kristen Waters, KLani Waters, Jazz Lynn Waters and 17 great-grandchildren.

Freida was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert (Scotty); her parents, Claude and Hazel Corzatt, and two sisters, Virginia and Margaret.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2007, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic with the Reverend Gary DeGeest of the Atlantic First United Methodist Church officiating.

Fellowship and lunch will be held after the service in the Community Room at Hockenberry's.

Her ashes, as well as her husband's ashes, will be buried in the Atlantic Cemetery at a later date.

The family suggests memorials to Cass Inc. or the Heritage House.

Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
