Gene Huss

Gene L. Huss, 74, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.
Gene LeRoy Huss was born November 21, 1931, in Adair, Iowa, the son of Lawrence W. and Elsie A. (Charles) Huss.
He was a lifelong Adair, Iowa resident.
Gene served his country in the U.S. Army, 5th Regimental Combat Team in Korea. He received the Purple Heart on July 15, 1953.
He married Barb (McKee) Huss in June of 1955 and Elaine (Staggs) Huss on November 22, 1991.
Gene worked for the Schmeling Awning Company and the Kingery Awning Company, both in Casey, Iowa. Most recently, he was employed by the Adair-Casey School System.
Gene was a member of the VFW Post No. 8877, Adair, Iowa.
He is survived by his four children, Deb and her husband, Dave Gundy of Adair, Iowa, and their two children and spouses and five grandchildren; Randy and his wife, Marlene Huss of Adair, Iowa, and their three children and spouses and one grandchild; Rick and his wife, Kim Huss of Adair, Iowa, and their three children and spouse and three grandchildren; Kelly and her husband, Brad Garside of Adair, Iowa, and their four children and spouses and two grandchildren. Gene is also survived by his wife, Elaine, Huss of Adair, Iowa, and her children, Peggy and her husband, Mike Semke of Grand Junction, Iowa, and their two children; J.M. and his wife, Becky Staggs III of Des Moines, Iowa, and their two children; Michelle and her husband, David Bassett of Panora, Iowa, and their two children.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Elsie Huss.
A private, family, graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery, Anita, Iowa.
The family is requesting that memorials be made to the Adair-Casey School Foundation in Gene's honor.
Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair is handling the arrangements.
