Genevieve K. Fusselman, 94, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Genevieve Kathryn Fusselman was born June 24, 1913, at the family farm home near Fontanelle, Iowa, the daughter of Erwin Arthur and Anna Marie (Welsch) Westphal.

Genny was raised in the Bridgewater-Fontanelle area where she attended school. During her last year in high school, the family moved to Waterloo, Iowa, and Genny graduated in 1931 from the East High School in Waterloo.

On January 21, 1939, Genny married Glen Elvinic Fusselman in the Catholic Rectory in Greenfield, Iowa.

Following their marriage, they moved to a farm south of Anita, Iowa, where they lived for a time, prior to moving to Waterloo, Iowa, living there for a few years.

The couple then moved to rural Bridgewater, Iowa, onto the farm owned by Glen's grandmother. Four years later, they moved to a farm south of Anita, Iowa, where they raised their family.
Following Glen's death on October 16, 1967, Genny moved into Atlantic and has lived here since.

She worked as a Nurse's Aide at the Cass County Memorial Hospital for nine years, retiring in 1977.

Genny was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic. While living near Anita, she was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Anita, Iowa.

Genny enjoyed her flowers as well as embroidery and sewing, while her eyesight permitted. However, her greatest joy came from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons, Roger Lee Fusselman and his wife, Nancy of Johnston, Iowa, Dale Glen Fusselman and his wife, Laura of Creston, Iowa, and Craig Allen Fusselman and his wife, Susie of Marne, Iowa; her two daughters, Carol Ann Anderson and her husband, Dan of Atlantic, Iowa, and Jolene Kathryn Krogh and her husband, David of Atlantic, Iowa. Genevieve is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Arvalla Kellar and her husband, Rick of Waukee, Iowa, Darla Lamparek and her husband, Gary of Fairfax, Iowa, Marsha Thompson and her friend, Bob Bauch of Grimes, Iowa, Becky Headley and her husband, Bruce of Corona, California, Jeffrey Fusselman and his wife, Kerri of Omaha, Nebraska, Cyndi Keck and her husband, James of Ruidso, New Mexico, Steven Fusselman of Omaha, Nebraska, Jill Sailer of Urbandale, Iowa, Jason Anderson and his wife, Lori of Atlantic, Iowa, Mark Opbroek and his wife, Theresa of Marne, Iowa, Matthew Opbroek and his wife, Beth of Atlantic, Iowa, Andrew Krogh of Boulder, Colorado, and Kelly Krogh and his friend, Kelly Budeslich of Johnston, Iowa; and 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Keith Westphal of Fontanelle, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Ralph and Earl Fusselman; two sisters-in-law, Vera Griffin and Hazel Johnson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Anna Westphal; her stepmother, Margaret Westphal; her husband, Glen; a brother, Jack Westphal and his wife, Leta; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Westphal; a grandson, Michael Opbroek; a grandson-in-law, Kreg Sailer; sister-in-law, Darlene Fusselman; two brothers-in-law, Bill Griffin and Virgil Johnson.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, Iowa, with Father Dan Siepker officiating. A Rosary will be recited at the church, at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, prior to the Mass.

Public visitation will begin at 12 Noon Tuesday at Hockenberrys.

Committal services and interment will be in Southlawn Memory Gardens, Atlantic, Iowa. Following the cemetery services, friends and family are invited to join together for lunch and memories at the Church Parish Center.

The family has requested that memorials go to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Atlantic, Iowa in Genevieve's memory.
