George Brosam, 86, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.
George Brosam was born on August 28, 1920, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of George Thomas and Cecil May (Dye) Brosam.
He graduated from Atlantic High School, and in 1940 entered the National Guard. George was called to the United States Army on February 10, 1941, and came back to the United States on November 7, 1944. He served in Company L, 34th Division, 168th Infantry. During his service in the United States Army he served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam and traveled to Africa, Japan, and Ireland. He served in the Tunisian, Italy and Algerian Campaigns as well as the European Theatre. George retired from the Army in 1964, proudly serving 24 years and receiving 3 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
George was united in marriage to Virginia Sayers on April 6, 1946, in Manitou Springs, Colorado.
After retiring from the military he worked for Simpson Timber in Shelton, Washington, and Smelter in Tacoma, Washington.
George was a member of the Atlantic VFW. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and carpentry.
George is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia of Atlantic, Iowa; daughter Carole Joslin and her husband, Jay of Spokane, Washington; sons, Gary Brosam and his wife, Charlene of Atlantic, Iowa, George Brosam and his wife, Sue of Las Vegas, Nevada, Larry Brosam and his wife, Rose of Cumberland, Iowa, Jim Brosam and Jerry Brosam, both of Atlantic, Iowa and Terry Brosam and his wife Robin of Marshfield, Missouri; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by parents; sister, Reva; brother, Paul; grandson, John Brosam; and great-granddaughter, Courtney Brosam.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 28, 2006, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.
Graveside memorial services will be Monday, October 30, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., at the Atlantic Cemetery.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
