George Leland Parris, the son of George Peter and Gladys (Snyder) Parris, was born May 23, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas and died July 29, 2014, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 2 months, and 6 days.
George was baptized with his son at their home by Reverend Harvey Quandt. He attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1957. George worked construction for a short time then was employed as a painter for Cam Ross Sign Company.
On October 15, 1960, he was united in marriage to MayBelle Deist at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Three children George Allan, Robyn, and Molly were born to this union. George continued sign painting for a short time. He became interested in auto body repair and spent the rest of his working years perfecting that art. He took a short break to work in the parts department at Countryside Motors for a few years. He finished his career doing auto body repair work until he retired due to his failing health in 2007.
George was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. He was a member of the Audubon County Conservation Club, was a Boy Scout Leader for many years, and coached little league baseball. George loved to fish, especially for bass and bow hunt for deer and hunt for pheasants. But most of all George was a family man and loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Georgia and husband Marvin Adams, Daisy Marie and husband Evans Schmidt, and Judy Larsen; and his brother-in-law Les Bingle.
Survivors include his wife MayBelle Parris of Audubon, Iowa; his children George A. and wife Kathleen Parris, Robyn and husband Robert Killeen, and Molly and husband Joe Muhr all of Audubon, Iowa; his grandchildren Morgan Parris of Audubon, Iowa, Jordan Rowland of Lawrence, Kansas, Tessa and husband Nick Hansen of Adair, Iowa, Tate Killeen of Audubon, Iowa, Trenton Muhr of Ames, Iowa, and Afton Muhr of Audubon, Iowa; his great grandchildren Brecken Rowland of Lawrence, Kansas, and Sawyer Hansen of Adair, Iowa. his sister Joan Bingle of Lenox, Iowa, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Doris and husband Frank Jorgensen of Orlando, Florida, Phyllis and husband Wayne Freetly of Ankeny, Iowa, Annabelle and husband Marvin Christensen and LaVerne and wife Patty Deist all of Audubon, Iowa, and David Deist of Arizona; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
