George "Mick" Edwin Mally, 85, a long time resident of Atlantic Iowa, passed away peacefully at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center Saturday, June 5, 2010.
George was born the son of Henry and Mary Mally (Crosby) Sept. 9, 1924, in Berwick, Iowa. He attended school and graduated from Ankeny High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling, MN and served in Counter Intelligence from 1946 to 1948. In 1951 he received a BS in agronomy from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
He married Rosemary June Bernard on October 21, 1951. George and Rosemary lived in Grinnell, Spencer and Des Moines before finally settling in Atlantic. The couple was blessed with a family of three children. George was sales manager for Cities Service Oil Company and retired as a salesman for the veterinary division of Solvay pharmaceutical company.
George was a member of the Nishna Hills Golf Club, Elks Club, the American Legion and St. Paul's Lutheran Church. His interests included golfing, gardening (particularly tomatoes), the stock market, and Iowa State football. His special accomplishments were those of being a loving husband and father, trips with Rosemary to Portugal and Sweden, and growing the best Iowa tomatoes imaginable. He will be remembered as a man of good humor, loyalty, honesty and integrity.
His survivors include his wife, Rosemary, of 59 years; sons, Steven and wife Tammy of Everett, WA; Kenneth and wife Leslie of Igo, CA, their children, Brittany and Jasmine; Thomas and wife Amy of Monument, CO, their children, Tucker and Nathan; brother, Ward of Elkart, Iowa; sister, Margaret Randolph (Mally) of Anamosa, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence, Milton, John; and sister, Ruth.
There will be no scheduled visitation. His memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Atlantic, Iowa, officiated by Reverend Dennis Meyer. Please join the family for lunch and memories following the memorial service. The committal service will be a private ceremony.
