George Anthony Siepker, 83, the son of John and Rosa (Langenfeld) Siepker, was born December 28, 1927, near Templeton, Iowa, and died November 29, 2011, at his home north of Audubon, Iowa.
George was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School through sixth grade. During his younger years, George traveled to Canada to visit cousins, and lived in California with his parents for a couple of years. George worked at a furniture factory, had a milk route, then started farming. He kept up on his woodworking with remodeling the homes he lived in as well as doing work for many family members and neighbors.
On April 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marie Cecilia Dentlinger at St. Augustine's Church in Halbur, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. George and Marie lived in Breda, Churdan and Roselle. They farmed south of Halbur for several years. In February of 1963, they purchased their first farm east of Gray, Iowa. George retired from farming in 1996 but continued to do woodworking, making numerous craft items and selling them. George loved making a variety of woodworking projects for his grandkids for Christmas.
George was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Audubon. He was very active in the Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus, serving in almost every office the Knights have, including District Deputy for a number of years. George was a 4-H leader for a number of years, served as a director for AMPI and sold Vinton Hybrid Seed Corn for many years. Two of his favorite pastimes were playing cards with family and friends, and fishing.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Marie; his daughter, Sister Pat Siepker; his parents; and his brothers and sisters and their spouses.
Survivors include his children, Betty and Dale Niklasen of Kimballton, IA, Tom and Shiela Siepker of Audubon, IA and Father Dan Siepker of Atlantic, IA; his grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Niklasen of Pulaski, WI, Dean and Connie Niklasen of Farley, IA, Kristi and Matt Kenny of Carson, IA, Angel Siepker and friend Scott Hogue of Audubon, IA, David and Jill Niklasen of Walnut, IA, Derek Niklasen and friend Joy Middleton of Ames, IA, Dain and LaJissa Niklasen of Kimballton, IA; thirteen great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Norman and Katherine Dentlinger of Coon Rapids, IA; sisters-in-law, Mary Dentlinger of Audubon, IA and Rita Dentlinger of Manning, IA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 2, 2011, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. A Rosary will be held Thursday, December 1, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at Hockenberry-England Funeral Home in Audubon, IA. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Audubon.
