Gerald M. Stuart, 82, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, December 22, 2006, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Gerald Milton Stuart was born on August 16, 1924, in Morrison, Illinois, the son of Henry J. and Cornellia (Rose) Stuart.
He was raised in Morrison, Illinois, and was a 1942 graduate of the Morrison High School. Jerry attended St. Augustine College in Chicago, Illinois, for several years.
Jerry served in the United States Army during WWII, having spent time in the European Theatre and took part in D-Day, Battle of the Bulge and also served in the Philippines.
On May 2, 1950, Jerry married Dorothy A. VanDyke in Morrison, Illinois.
He retired after 20-plus years as an insurance agent in the Atlantic area.
Jerry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, Iowa. He had been a Boy Scout troop leader for troop #60 in Atlantic and was also a member of Atlantic's Pymosa Lodge #271, A.F. & A.M.
Jerry enjoyed playing golf and was a longtime member and a Past-President of the Nishna Hills Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stuart of Atlantic, Iowa; his son, Craig Stuart and his wife, Lori of Atlantic, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Karen Stuart of Winona, Minnesota; five grandsons, Derek Stuart and Shelley of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Bryan Stuart and Valerie of Liberty, Missouri, Kevin Stuart and Alanna of Mason City, Iowa, Christopher Stuart of Winona, Minnesota and Michael Stuart of Minneapolis, Minnesota; as well as his four great-grandchildren, Mychaela, Jayden, Lynnea and Ellie. He is also survived by two brothers, Edward J. Stuart and his wife, Harriett of Morrison, Illinois and John W. Stuart of Fulton, Illinois.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Cornelia Stuart; his son, Larry Stuart; and a sister-in-law, Jan Stuart.
Following cremation, a graveside committal service will be held at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, Illinois, at a later date.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, Iowa, in Jerry's memory.
