Gertrude Elizabeth Bamsey Klever, 91, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at the Heritage House in Atlantic.
Gertrude was born on January 29, 1915, in Audubon County, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Viola (Kopp) Bamsey.
She was baptized in the Evangelical Church in Audubon, Iowa. Gertrude attended elementary and high school in Audubon, Iowa, and graduated with the class of 1933.
She taught country school for three years after which she attended the Four C's Business School in Des Moines, Iowa. Following her graduation, Gertrude was employed for a few years by Whitman, Kauffman, and Evans Insurance Company.
On December 25, 1938, Gertrude married Harlan Klever. The couple made their home in Des Moines for a number of years and later moved to Atlantic.
Following Harlan's death in 1983, Gertrude continued living in Atlantic.
For a number of years, she was secretary to Lester Klever in the Iowa House of Representatives.
Gert had many interests. She was a 50-year member of the Atlantic Chapter 194, Order of the Eastern Star, was active in the ZaGaZig Shrine Auxiliary, and served 25 years at Mother Advisor of the Rain Bow Girls of Atlantic. She was also a member of the Questers Club and played in a Bridge Club.
Gertrude was a long-time member of the First United Presbyterian Church and served on many boards and ladies groups, including Session, Trustee, was a Deacon of the Church, a member of the Ladies Aid and sang in the Church Choir for many years.
She served on the Board of the Heritage House, where she was a resident for eight years.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Louise Bamsey; a brother, Raymond L. Bamsey; two aunts, Olive Kopp Bamsey (who raised Gert) and her aunt Florence; her nephew, Jeff Parrott as well as a grand nephew, Christopher Frandsen.
She is survived by one sister, Florence M. Parrott and her husband, John C. Parrott of Audubon, Iowa; one nephew, Cal Parrott and his wife, Frances A. of Council Bluffs, Iowa and their four daughters, Callie A. Parrott Bower and her husband, Kevin Bower and their son, Cole, and daughter, Katie, all of Liberty, Missouri; Alisa Frandsen and her husband, Matt and their daughter, Ali of Ames, Iowa; Amanda M. Parrott of West Des Moines, Iowa; and Molly E. Parrott of Chicago, Illinois, plus many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2006, in the lounge in the main building of the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa, with the Reverend Don Seeger of the Atlantic First United Presbyterian Church officiating.
Visitation for the public will be Thursday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. The family will greet their friends, at 10:30 a.m., prior to the service, Friday morning at the Heritage House.
Committal services and interment will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday afternoon in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Audubon, Iowa.
The family is requesting memorials go to the First United Presbyterian Church or the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 194, both in Atlantic, Iowa.
