Gilbert "Gib" McCurdy, 77, of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.
Gilbert Floyd McCurdy was born April 5, 1930, in Cumberland, Iowa the son of George and Alma (Aldag) McCurdy. He farmed south of Cumberland, and about 16 years ago retired and moved into Cumberland. Gib lived a simple life and enjoyed the down-to-earth pleasures of being home, smoking his pipe, spending time outdoors, and his noon walks to the Chuckwagon Café. He liked going to farm auctions. Gib also fed and cared for most of the stray cats in the Cumberland area.
Surviving Gib are his brother, Wayne McCurdy and his wife, Carol of Weatherford, Texas; his nephews, Leonard McCurdy and his wife, Debi of Atlantic, IA, and Steven McCurdy and his wife, Joyce of Coon Rapids, IA; his nieces, Norma McCurdy of Jefferson, IA and Carol Wolff of Audubon, IA; and his sister-in-law, Stella McCurdy.
Gib was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alma McCurdy; his sister, Darlene McCurdy; and two brothers, Earl "Bud" McCurdy and Arnold McCurdy.
A Reflection Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, with Pastor Dale Kesterson of the First Church of Christ officiating.
Viewing will start at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday with family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, south of Wiota, Iowa, at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2008.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
