Gilbert Hans Pedersen, 84, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk, Iowa.
He was born December 20, 1931, the son of Hans and Mable Grace (Prather) Pedersen at home in Lyman, Noble Township, Cass County, Iowa. Gilbert was raised northeast of Atlantic. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1949. He was inducted into the United States Army and stationed in Germany from 1952 to 1954. After his discharge from the military, Gilbert returned to Atlantic. He married Darlene Barnes on February 5, 1956, in Atlantic. He then was married on April 17, 1971, in Bethany, Missouri, to Madeline Miller.
Gilbert was employed with Farm Service in Guthrie Center followed by Camblin Plumbing and Heating in Atlantic for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Gilbert enjoyed old time western music, spending time on his acreage and had a strong belief that everything has a purpose and could be fixed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Mable Grace Pedersen and his brothers, Harold and Lawrence Pedersen.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Madeline Pedersen of Atlantic, Iowa, and their son, David (Amber) Pedersen of Carlisle, IA. Also, his daughters Diane (Duane) Semler of Murfreesboro, TN, Donna (Jerry) Sebert of Spirit Lake, IA, Linda Pedersen of Urbandale, IA, and Wanda (Todd) Simchuk of Redlands, CA; two stepsons, Jeff (Honey) Klever of Atlantic, IA and Jerry (Kim) Klever of Cameron, MO; eight grandchildren, Charlie Pedersen, Keith Semler, Amanda (Brian) Lewis, Joshua Sebert, Cory (Jennifer) Sebert, Kylie Sebert, Sandis Simchuk, Claire Simchuk; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene Bagstad of Eden Prairie, MN; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation with family will be from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa, with burial in the Atlantic Cemetery.
