Glenn Dean Bruun

Glenn Dean Bruun, the son of Jens Christian and Carrie E. (Jensen) Bruun, was born July 28, 1937, at his parents’ home near Audubon, Iowa and died September 5, 2013, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 76 years, 1 month, and 7 days. Glenn was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. He attended Audubon Community Schools and the Audubon High School. On April 6, 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his tour of duty he served in Germany. He was honorably discharged on March 18, 1957. He returned to Audubon and helped his mother operate the family business, Audubon Laundry. On September 15, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shari Johansen at the Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. Glenn worked at the laundry for a short time. He served as a deputy sheriff for a few years and then worked for his uncle Jon Bruun at his produce. Glenn worked for Southside Welding for over 30 years in the parts department. IN 1995, he worked for his son Greg at Countryside Industries until he retired in 2006. During his retirement he worked part time for Elmquist Welding. Glenn was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. He served on the church council for many years and also enjoyed ushering. He served on the Audubon City Council. He enjoyed golfing and visiting with friends. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his daughters: Joni Bruun and Gina Bruun; his parents; his sisters: Norma and husband Paul Worster; Bernice and husband Eldon Adams. Survivors include his children: Tami and husband Fred Bridge of Washougal, Washington; Greg and wife Carolyn Bruun of Audubon, Iowa; Troy and wife Kristie Bruun of Wichita, Kansas; his grandchildren: Jeremy and wife Emily Smith of Vancouver, Washington; Chris and wife Kelli Flores of Vancouver; Nick and wife Denise Flores of Vancover; Ben Flores of Washougal; Matt and wife Melanie Olesen of Harlan, Iowa; Sarah and husband Steve Asmus of Audubon; Jacob and wife Robyn Bruun of Hillsboro, Oregon; Kaley Bruun of Wichita; Madison Bruun of Wichita; Ellissa Bruun of Wichita; his great grandchildren: Tamara, Taryn, Cody, Rachael, Dylan, Ava, Katelyn, Victoria, Alexandra, Cael, Dilan, Haley, Shelby, and Lyla; his brother: Jens and wife Phyllis Bruun of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his sister Dolores and husband Milo Clemmensen of Audubon; his longtime companion Mary Ann Irlmeier of Templeton, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
Celebration of life memorial services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Monday, September 9, 2013, at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
