Goldie Uhlmann

Goldie Rose Uhlmann, 97, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Caring Acres Nursing & Rehab in Anita.

She was born September 20, 1915, to Louie and Rose (Zimmerline) Peterson on the family farm in Adair County, Iowa. Goldie attended country schools until the eighth grade. As a teenager, she worked as a housekeeper for new mothers. She was united in marriage to Fred Uhlmann September 25, 1933, on the family farm. Goldie became a farmwife and she helped Fred on their farm. She was also a homemaker and mother to her two daughters, Dolores and Darlene. Goldie enjoyed wallpapering and painting. She taught her daughters these traits and later became self-employed doing wallpapering for people in the community.


Goldie was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. She was active in many neighborhood clubs including the "SOS" club. Goldie was a very hard working woman. She always put others before herself and was a constant support for others. She was a good teacher to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Goldie was very adventurous and fearless. She loved to dance, sew, crochet and embroider. She made most of the clothing for her girls as they were growing up and knitted many afghans and quilts. Goldie also canned many items they grew on the farm. She loved to bake and cook, and most foods in her kitchen were homemade. Everyone loved her homemade noodles and chocolate pie. Goldie was a strong willed person and a strong family woman. She never said a bad word about anyone. Goldie was tough never wanting anyone to worry about her.

She is survived by her daughters, Dolores Skellenger of Exira, IA and Darlene and husband, Ronald Leib of Indianola, IA; her grandchildren, Brian Leib of Indianola, IA, Denise Schultz and Orville of Martensdale, IA, Kim Skellenger and fiancé Mindi Morgan of Exira, IA, Rhonda Leib and Tom Vickroy of Winterset, IA and Jody (Tom) Rayl of Mitchellville, IA; her great-grandchildren, Russell Skellenger of Red Oak, IA, Nicole Hartz and Eric Thompson of Altoona, IA, Ashley and Jason Berry of Winterset, IA, Brooke Rayl and fiancé Jeremy Heimbaugh of Des Moines, IA and Zoey Schultz of Martensdale, IA; her great-great-grandchildren, Braden and Alex Thompson of Altoona, IA and Aubri and Hayleigh Berry of Winterset, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Rose Peterson; her husband, Fred Uhlmann; her brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 12, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita.

Graveside service will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery north of Adair, Iowa, following the funeral service.
