Grace Margaret (Mueller) Hansen was born April 14, 1922, on a farm one and one half miles north of Adair, in Guthrie County, Iowa, the daughter of John Tobias and Margaretha Wilhelmina Mueller. She was baptized on May 7, 1922, by the Reverend Otto Kohn and confirmed on April 14, 1935, by the Reverend Theodore Hoemann at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa. Grace attended rural schools in Guthrie County and graduated from Adair High School in 1938. After high school, she attended normal training at Simpson College. Upon graduation, she taught rural school, in Grant Township, of Guthrie County from 1939 to 1946.
On March 3, 1946, Grace was united in marriage to Harvey L. Hansen by the Reverend Theodore Hoemann at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Adair. The couple lived and farmed five miles north of Anita until Harvey's death on June 2, 1985. In 1991, Grace moved to Adair, where she lived until 2009, when she moved to Caring Acres in Anita.
Grace was devoted to her church and her family. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, taught Sunday school there for many years and was a long time member of the L.W.M.L. Grace's Confirmation verse was Hebrews 13-5:"Be content with what you have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." She was also a long time member of the Oakridge Neighborhood Club. Grace had a great love of music and she sang with the Immanuel Women's Quartet. She also enjoyed all aspects of living on the farm, especially when she was gardening, cooking and baking. Many have been blessed with her cookies, pies, angel food cakes and homemade noodles.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Margaretha Mueller; her husband, Harvey L. Hansen; her brother, Dale Mueller and his wife Ilah; her sister, Ruth Jobst and her husband, Carl; and her daughter-in-law, Nancy Hansen.
Grace is survived by her children, David (Linda) Hansen of Omaha, NE, Dean (Kay) Hansen of Anita, IA, and Mark (Jill) Hansen of Fremont IA; her grandchildren, Christopher (Elizabeth) Peterson of Lincoln, NE, Sara (Marc) Hickman of Plainfield, IL, Michael( Lynette) Hansen of Lincoln, NE, Sonya (Jamie) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Nicole (Todd) Mattox of Omaha, NE, Natalie (Grant) Kimberley of Ankeny, IA, Nathan (Terri) Hansen of Stuart, IA; her foster granddaughter, Taylor Plank of Fremont, IA; her great-grandchildren, Trevor and Collin Peterson of Papillion, NE, Joel and Lauren Peterson of Lincoln, NE, Hannah and Braden Hickman of Plainfield, IL, Elizabeth Hansen of Lincoln, NE, Abagail Harnack of Minneapolis, MN, Aiden, William and Braxton Mattox of Omaha, NE, Austin Kimberley of Ankeny, IA, Ada and Isaac Hansen of Stuart, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will start at 1:00 p.m. with family present from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 10, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair with burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Adair.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Women's Missionary League of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Adair.
