Gregg "Bud" Cohrs, age 59 of Griswold, IA, died near Lewis, IA on Monday, February 5, 2024. He was born the son of Dennis and Judy Cohrs in Omaha, NE on October 27, 1964. He graduated from the Atlantic Community Schools in 1983.
Gregg, AKA Bud, was a tenured iron worker, employed by Henningsen Construction Inc. Bud began his career with Henningsen’s in January of 1984. Bud started as a general laborer with Henningsen’s and through hard work and dedication worked his way up to be a foreman and master crane operator. During Bud’s 40-year career with Henningsen’s, he constructed thousands of buildings, assembled and tore down the asphalt plants, throughout the country.
Through his accomplishments came sacrifice, including time away from home and loved ones. Although he spent a large portion of his career away from his home and family, he was part of a larger family, the Henningsen’s family. Bud loved spending time with his wife, kids, and grandchildren when the opportunity allowed. Bud was an avid Raider’s fan and spent countless hours watching his beloved team in the man cave. When Bud wasn’t watching the Raider’s lose, he was working on keeping his “Yard of the Month” award intact, projects throughout the house, extra hours at the shop, and enjoying time with his cat “Mizz Berry”.
Bud will always be remembered for his physical sacrifice to ensure his family, crew, jobsites, and clients were taken care of. There were times this came with tough love and stern leadership, that’s who Bud was, no excuse for a missed day of work. Working hard every day was a trait inherently engraved into Bud’s soul. The friendships and bonds Bud created will continue to live on through the memories of who he was.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Judy Cohrs, and in-laws, Mike and Nancy Dollen. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Cohrs of Griswold, IA, sister, Brenda (Jeb) Peck of Atlantic, IA, and brother, Mike (Ligia) Cohrs of rural Lewis, IA; his children, Nichole (Tyler) Perkins of Columbia, SC, Tia (Dakota) Johnson of Atlantic, IA, and Cable Cohrs of Atlantic, IA, Jessica Evans of Griswold, IA, Brenda Evans of Griswold, IA; grandchildren, Hannah Perkins, Justice Perkins, Lilith Perkins, Halston Johnson, Evander Johnson, Jaidyn Hern Alvarado, Alynah Hern Alvarado, Kyler Navarro Hernandez, Kale Navarro Hernandez, and several nieces and nephews.
