Gregory James Wedemeyer, Husband, Dad and Papa, best known as Greg, unexpectedly departed this life on December 13, 2022, at the age of 73. He was the oldest son of seven children born to Kenneth and Margaret Wedemeyer in Adair, Iowa. Greg attended Adair-Casey High and graduated with the Class of ’67. He then attended college in Omaha earning a degree in accounting.
Greg then joined the Army in 1970 and did basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. While he was on leave, he returned home to marry the love of his life, Renae Wright, on August 1, 1970. They then moved to Columbus, Georgia where he was first stationed and then later to Oakland, CA. After being discharged, Greg and Renae returned to Adair to farm and start a family. Along with farming, Greg drove a school bus while his kids attended Adair-Casey schools and later was a manager for American Concrete in Guthrie Center until he retired. After retirement, Greg continued to farm and enjoyed traveling with the members of the class of ‘67.
He enjoyed sports, coffee with friends, getting together with his family to play pinochle and most of all loved spending time with his wife, kids, and granddaughters. Papa will be missed and it’s so hard to imagine he is no longer with us.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents, sister Janet Wedemeyer, father-in-law Leo Wright and mother-in-law, Joyce Wright.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Renae of Adair and their children; Olivia Wedemeyer of Denver, CO, Tara Wedemeyer (Mike Walter) of Kansas City, MO, Dax Wedemeyer (Lisa Josephsen) of West Des Moines, IA and Seth Wedemeyer (Haleyann Annicchiarico) of West Des Moines; three granddaughters, Josephine and Maura Walter and Everleigh Wedemeyer; Greg’s siblings, Anne Barrett (Bill), Rosemary Walmsley (Doug), Carolyn Morris (Todd), Diane Cruikshank (Dave), Phyllis Allen (Wylie) and Jerome Wedemeyer (Kim). Greg is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
