Guy Richard Barton

Guy Richard Barton, the son of William Dewey and Laura Beulah (Ault) Barton, was born February 27, 1932, in Elkhart, Iowa and died February 18, 2013 at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 11 months, and 21 days. Guy was baptized at the Christian Church in Elkhart, Iowa. He attended Elkhart Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1950. Guy then attended Iowa Barber College in Des Moines, Iowa. Later in 1950, he enlisted in the United States Navy. During his tour of duty he served as a barber and was stationed in Subic Bay in the Philippines. He also served on the U.S.S. Mt. McKinley. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Guy returned to Des Moines, Iowa where he was employed as a barber and also taught at the Iowa Barber College. In January of 1957, he moved to Waterloo, Iowa where he established the Waterloo Barber College which has become the Waterloo School of Hair Design. On January 26, 1957, he was united in marriage to Ruth Basham at the First Christian Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived in Waterloo where Guy taught and managed the Barber College. Guy eventually became part-owner. Also during this time he and Ruth operated a theatrical supply company which provided supplies for schools and colleges. Guy sold his portion of the school and his business. They moved to Brayton, Iowa where they purchased the Hallock House which they turned into a Bed and Breakfast. Guy also had a furniture repair and refinishing business which they operated until they retired. They enjoyed camping and traveling around the country. They later moved to their present home in Exira, Iowa. Guy was a member of the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. He was a 50 year member of Exodus Masonic Lodge in Exira and a member of the Brayton American Legion Post #350. Guy was preceded in death by his great granddaughter Anjolique Lynn Norman; his son-in-law Scott Corbett; his parents; his sister Mildred Barton Walker; and his brothers-in-law: Cecil Atwood and Robert Crosby. Survivors include his wife Ruth Barton of Exira, Iowa; his children: Sheryl and husband Bill Norman-Ryan of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Brenda Barton of Ames, Iowa; Paul Steven Barton of Chula Vista, California; his grandchildren: Randy Norman of Altoona, Iowa; Ryan and wife Karen Norman of Wichita Falls, Texas; Kaitlyn Pirtle of Iowa City, Iowa; Rowan Pirtle and Graham Pirtle both of Ames; Emily Barton, India Barton, and Isaac Barton all of Chula Vista; his great grandchildren: Austin Norman and William Norman both of Altoona; Mia Jo Norman of Wichita Falls; his sister Agnes Barton Atwood of Exira; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Trudy Crosby of Omaha, Nebraska; Russell and wife Betty Walker of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Inurnment will be in the Cory Grove Cemetery in Elkhart, Iowa at 3:30 P.M.

Service:
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyers on Saturday, June 22, 2013,at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa.
