Harold William “Bill” Hocamp Jr., 79, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bill was born October 3, 1934, at home in Adair, Iowa, to Harold William Sr. and Beryl Irene (Kempster) Hocamp. He was raised in Adair and attended Adair Community Schools. Bill graduated from Adair High School with the class of 1952. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. Upon returning home from the service, he spent some time living in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and then Atlantic, Iowa. He eventually returned home to Adair, Iowa, and remained there. He was employed for a brief period of time at Schildberg Construction. Bill then went to work for the Iowa Department of Transportation for twenty years before transferring to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for eleven years. He retired with thirty-one years of service for the state of Iowa.

In his younger years, Bill liked to golf, bowl and do magic. Bowling was a great joy to him as he bowled on many leagues and played in many “big money” tournaments. He also loved to watch and perform magic. When he was living in Council Bluffs he took a magic class at Iowa Western Community College. He loved performing magic for his family and friends. During his retirement years, he enjoyed his coffee club at the Happy Chef in Adair and was well known to all there.

Bill is survived by his siblings, Lawrence “Bud” Hocamp of Lakeview, AR, Marvin (Diane) Hocamp of FL, MarSelene (Ray) Rathman of Greenfield, IA, Sally Rice of New Whiteland, IN and Charles (Donna) Hocamp of Ashville, NC; brother-in-law, Vern Skellenger of Stuart, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Bill in death were his father and mother, Harold William Hocamp Sr. and Beryl Hocamp; siblings, Marilyn Skellenger, Shirley (Eldonn) Siedelmann, Kenneth Hocamp, Myrna (Jim) Smith, Merle Hocamp and Craig (Kathy) Hocamp.

Visitation will be held at Hockenberry Funeral Home, Atlantic, Iowa, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., with the funeral service starting at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014.

A private family burial will be in the Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair, Iowa, at a later date.
