Harold Le Roi Hansen

Harold Le Roi Hansen, the son of Harold L. and Mable Rasmussen Hansen, was born May 16, 1928, at his parents home in Brayton, Iowa and died February 21, 2011, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 5 days.
Harold was baptized at the Oak Hill Lutheran Church west of Brayton and confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Atlantic. He attended rural school near Brayton, and school in Audubon, then graduated from the Atlantic High School with the Class of 1947. Harold spent the next academic year attending classes at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. He returned to Atlantic and was employed as a salesman at Metcalfs Clothing Store.
On July 3, 1958 he was united in marriage to Lael Maree Lowden at the Congregational Church in Creston, Iowa. One daughter Katherine was born to this union. Harold continued to work at the clothing store for a short period until they moved to Minnesota so that Harold could attend the University of Minnesota. In June of 1960, he graduated with an Associate Degree in Mortuary Science. They moved to Creston, Iowa for a brief time, then Harold was a Funeral Director working for firms in Mason City, Iowa and Bettendorf, Iowa. Harold purchased the funeral home in Casey, Iowa and later the funeral home in Adair, Iowa. He sold the funeral homes and then in 1977 moved to Atlantic, Iowa where he opened the Hansen Funeral Home. Harold retired and pursued a variety of interests and occasionally filled in as a Funeral Director at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Lael died on January 30, 2006. Since that time Harold, has made his home at the Heritage House.
Harold was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Atlantic and the Elks Lodge #445. He had been a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and had served in the capacity of the State Vice President. He also served eight years in the National Guard.
Harold was preceded in death in addition to his wife Lael, by his parents; and his sister-in-law Pat Hansen.
Survivors include his daughter Judge Katherine Hansen of Detroit, Michigan; his brothers Frederick (Fritz) and his wife Cathy Hansen of Wichita, Kansas, Judge David and wife Virginia Hansen of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Lewis and wife Dianne Hansen of Waukee, Iowa; four nephews; other relatives; caregivers at the Heritage House, and friends.

Memorials:
The family prefers memorials to American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10305 or St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 1011 East 13th Street, Atlantic, Iowa 50022.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Grant Van Lishout on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 11:00 A.M at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.
