Harold Leroy Littlefield

Harold Leroy Littlefield, the son of A. F. and Sara Wahlert Littlefield, was born September 23, 1927, at his parents’ home in Exira, Iowa and died, March 19, 2014, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 26 days. Harold was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira. He attended Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1945. Harold took several short college courses and then became a partner in the family Hybrid Seed Corn business. On June 9, 1948, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Williams at her parents’ home northeast of Exira. Three children Faye Annette, Ted Allen, and Lori Jo were born to this union. They lived in Exira their entire married life. Harold was a Hybrid Seed Corn Breeder and developed many varieties of seed, until he retired from Littlefield Hybrids, Inc. in 2000. Harold was an active member of the Exira Christian Church in Exira. He was a Charter Member of the Exira Lions Club and was an active supporter of the Exira Community. Harold and LaVonne loved to travel and enjoyed camping with their children and hiking in the mountains. He enjoyed fishing with the grandchildren and teaching them how to operate all the farm equipment. He enjoyed reading, collecting all sorts of items, photography, feeding birds, and listening to his collection of music. Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother and sisters, Kenneth and wife Janice Littlefield, Gladys Littlefield, Zola Littlefield, Dr. Ruth and husband Dr. Phil Dunsford, and Lois and husband Don Anderson; and his brothers-in-law Carroll Rusie, Fletcher Williams and Jim Mackey. Survivors include his wife Lavonne Littlefield of Exira, Iowa his children Faye Annette and husband Steve Hays of Newark, Ohio, Ted Allen Littlefield and girlfriend Sylvia Edwards of Phoenix, Arizona, and Lori Jo Littlefield and Dennis James Marquart of Waterloo, Iowa; his grandchildren Tracy and husband Tim Rebstock, of Olympia, Washington, Ted and wife Anne Hays of Akron, Ohio, Tom Hays of Akron, Ohio, Tyler Hays and girlfriend Jennifer Leurquin of Orlando, Florida, Lynn and husband Zachary Perry of Olympia, Washington, Amy and husband Brian Westell of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Douglas Littlefield and girlfriend Lauren Anderson of Portland, Oregon, Catherine LaVonne Littlefield and boyfriend Daniel Klopper of Tucson, Arizona, four great grandchildren; Katie, Zach, and Lexi Hays of Akron, Ohio, and Alexis Westell of Plymouth, Massachusetts; his sisters-in-laws Maxine Rusie of Omaha, Nebraska, Mona Williams of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Betty Lou and husband Jack Simonsen of Branson, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Friday evening at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 22, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa.
