Harold L. Wilson, 91, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab.
Harold Leo Wilson was born September 16, 1918, in Anita, Iowa, to Albert L. and Pluma (Cambridge) Wilson. Harold attended schools in Anita, Country School in Cass County and Norway Center south of Wiota. He lived his entire life in Cass County with exception of his 3 year military service in the Army Motor Pool.
Harold was married to Jean Reynolds and their two children, Lois and Leo were born. He then married Rose Pine in 1950 and raised Gary. Rose passed away in 1999. On October 27, 2001, Harold married Iola B. Waldau in Ida Grove, IA.
Harold started work as a farm hand at age 14 to help support his siblings and family. Until 1971 his career was spent as a mechanic and auto salesman at the Ford Garage in Anita. Later he worked at the Wiota elevator and was an over the road truck driver for Atlantic Carriers.
He served on the Anita Fire Department for many years and was Fire Chief during part of that time. He belonged to the Anita American Legion. His favorite hobby was playing golf.
Surviving Harold is his wife, Iola of Atlantic, IA; his children, Lois Jean Crook of Boone, IA, Leo Wilson of Montana and Gary (Irene) Nelson of Olathe, Kansas; his step-children, Larry (Elaine) Waldau of Colorado and Connie Keyser of Council Bluffs, IA; his sister, Evelyn Kessler of Wiota, IA, his brothers, Morris Wilson of Atlantic, IA and Ray Wilson of Council Bluffs, IA; his grandchildren, Lance Nelson, Brian Nelson, Mike Crook, Jayme Crook, Dave Crook, Jeff Wilson and Jerry Wilson; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Harold in death were his parents, Albert and Pluma Wilson; his wife, Rose Wilson; his brothers, Ralph, Gail and Lyle Wilson; and his sister, Beulah Kranke.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita, IA. Visitation with family will be from 6:00- 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18th at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, IA.
