Hazel Irene Fox, 96, of Guthrie Center, Iowa, and formerly of Adair and Casey, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2012, at New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa.

She was born January 8, 1917, in Adair, Iowa, to Frank and Myrtle (Lovell) Duff. Hazel grew up on the family farm south of Adair. She attended country school and graduated from Adair High School.

Hazel was united in marriage to Vern Fox on January 31, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa. She and Vern lived south of Casey, Iowa, for awhile but moved back to Adair when they built a new home. Hazel moved to the nursing home in Guthrie Center, Iowa, on June 15, 2010.

After graduating from high school, Hazel cleaned houses and did child care until she married. Once married, she ran a flower shop in her home, sold Avon and raised chinchillas. She also ran the Fox Den Ceramic Shop from 1964 to 1990. Hazel was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Adair, a member of the Willing Worker Club in Adair and a member of the ODO Club in Casey. Hazel loved fishing and shopping. She had a motor home and loved to travel and visit with people in California.

Hazel is survived by her son, Roger and wife, Sherry Fox of Casey, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jodie and her husband, Blake Wilbourne of Mt. Etna, IA, Lindsay and her husband, Curt Jahde of Anita, IA, Jon Fox and significant other, Toni Faga of Casey, IA, Brad Garside and his wife, Kelly of Adair, Dana Garside and his wife, Teresa of Grimes, and Lana Garside of Adair; her great-grandchildren, Jade and Jasmine Wilbourne both of Mt. Etna, Samantha and Chase Jahde of Anita and Jacob Fox of Casey, Chelsea (Shawn) Johnson of Nevada, IA, Alicia Garside, Kara Garside, Lydia Garside and Sophia Garside of Grimes; her step-great-grandchildren, Tess McCuen, Robin Catcher and her husband, Charlie, Dustin Steele and Joshua (Kacie) Steele; her step-great-great-grandchildren, Lane, Hannah, Ayden, BrendaLynn and Kaydence; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law; her husband, Vern Fox; her daughter, Sandra Garside; her brothers, Dana and wife, Louetta Duff and Boyd Duff in infancy; her sister, Judy Petersen; her great-grandson, Josie Wilbourne; and brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Mildred Fox.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 14, 2013, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Adair, with burial in the Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair.
