Hazel M. Johnson

Hazel Mildred Johnson, the daughter of John and Jesse Earl Wright, was born February 4, 1915, at her parents’ home in Atlantic, Iowa and died July 22, 2012, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 97 years, 5 months, and 18 days. Hazel was baptized at the Methodist Church in Atlantic, Iowa and also attended the Atlantic Community Schools. On October 13, 1931, she was united in marriage to Raymond (Jay) C. Johnson in Maryville, Missouri. Eight children were born to this union. Hazel was a homemaker raising their children. Later she did help Jay at their paint store and their café. The family enjoyed traveling to Lake Okoboji and Spirit Lake for many years where Hazel loved to fish. Raymond died January 19, 1992. Hazel resided in her home then moved to the Exira Care Center in May of 2002. Hazel was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. Her greatest joy in life was raising her children and babysitting for her grandchildren and watching them grow. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Raymond (Jay) C. Johnson; her children, an infant daughter Joyce Johnson and her son Charles Johnson; her sons-in-law Roland Black, Dennis Pross, and Steve McPherson; her grandson Jason Pross; her parents; and her brothers and sisters John and wife Elnora Wright, James and wife Vivian Wright, Walter and wife Opal Wright, Ruth and husband Bud Watson, Jesse (Sis) and husband Von Baetz, and Phyllis Hartman; and her brother-in-law Mark Johnson. Survivors include her children Janice Black of Exira, Iowa, Sandra and husband Ed Parsons of Audubon, Iowa, Jane and husband Lanny Kite of Marne, Iowa, Jackie Pross and Ralph Cleveland of Exira, Iowa, Catherine and husband Craig Schmidt of Omaha, Nebraska, and John and wife Linda Johnson of Atlantic, Iowa; her daughter-in-law Marlene Johnson of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; 25 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sister June Johnson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Tuesday evening at 6:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa.
