Helen Carolyn Andersen, the daughter of Harry and Ruth Mavis Dirgo, was born June 24, 1934 in Omaha, Nebraska and died October 1, 2008, at the Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, Iowa at the age of 74 years, 3 months, and 7 days.
Helen was baptized and confirmed at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, IA. She attended Elk Horn Community Schools, graduating with the High School Class of 1952. Helen moved to Omaha, NE where she was employed by the telephone company as an operator.
On May 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to Donald Nelson Andersen at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Helen was a homemaker while raising her children. Helen worked part-time at the Dairy Queen for a short time. In 1967 Helen and Don purchased Arch Andersens Plumbing and Heating business which they operated for 40 years. During this time Helen worked as the bookkeeper. Don died November 29, 2006. Helen enjoyed her home, then moved into the Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn in June of 2008. Helen was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her daughter-in-law Eileen Andersen; her grandson Kevin Andersen; her great-grandson Tymond Andersen; her brothers and sisters: Kay and Swede Woodring; Ruth and Albert Hansen; Ray and Lois Dirgo; Earl and Marlene Butch Dirgo and Vern Dirgo.
Survivors include her sons: Michael Andersen of Persia, IA and Kent Andersen and special friend Donna Parkhurst of Hamlin, IA; her grandchildren: Chris and Lisa Andersen of Ross, IA; Andrew Andersen of Perry, IA; John Andersen of Perry; Jill Andersen of Perry; Ron and Stacy Andersen of Carroll, IA; her great-grandchild Julianna Andersen of Audubon, IA; Dakota and Quinten of Ross, IA; her brothers: Harry (Bud) Dirgo of Omaha, NE and George Dirgo of Harlan, IA; her brothers-in-law: Charles Andersen of Elk Horn, IA; Dennis Andersen of Atlanta, GA; Paul Andersen of Conroe, TX; David (Fud) and Donna Andersen of Atlantic, IA; ; her sister-in-law Mary Dirgo of Omaha; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn, IA.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Monday evening at 6:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon.
