Helen Daume

Helen J. Daume, 97, of Adair, Iowa, died Thursday, June 2, 2016, at her home in Adair, Iowa.

Helen was born July 4, 1918, southeast of Anita, Iowa, in Lincoln Township to Frank and Frances (Burg) Kopp. She attended rural school and graduated from Anita High School in 1935. Helen graduated from Drake University with a BS in Education with honors. She also had one year of graduate work majoring in English and Social Studies.

She was an elementary teacher for 40 years beginning in country schools and then the Anita Community School. Helen married Melvin Daume in April of 1939. They lived on the farm west of Adair until they moved into Adair in 1983.

Helen was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Adair, CWO, retired teachers, former member of the Oak Ridge Club and a library trustee. Helen enjoyed music, dancing, reading, crafts of all kinds, oil painting, needlepoint and flower gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin in 1991; a sister, Ramona; two brothers, John Kopp and George Kopp; and a brother-in-law, William Stangel.

Helen is survived by a son, Jon (Betts) Daume of Marysville, OH; two grandsons, Dr. Jason (Arianne) Daume of Dayton, OH and Eric (Jodi) Daume of Dublin, OH; five great-grandchildren, Greyson and Jackson of Dayton, OH and Henry, Sam and Kate of Dublin, OH; a sister, Jane Stangel of Lacey, WA; a brother, Gene (Rosalie) Kopp of Anita, IA; sisters-in-law, Nona Kopp and Rosemary Kopp both of Anita, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2016, at Hockenberry Family Care in Adair, Iowa, with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at St. John's Catholic Church in Adair, Iowa.

Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Adair, IA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Southwest Iowa Humane Society, 692 East Laperia St., Clarinda, IA, 51632 is preferred.
