Helen Landon

Helen Lucille Landon, 81, of Atlantic, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014, at the Heritage House.

She was born July 1, 1932, in Griswold, Iowa. Her parents were Martin and Hyla (Vedane) Wooley. She was raised in Griswold and graduated from the Griswold High school in 1950. Helen worked in Omaha after graduation. She married Leland Landon on August 7, 1955, in the Lutheran Church in Griswold. They lived in Atlantic where she worked at several offices until her daughter was born. They moved to Great Bend, KS, when Lee was transferred by Sears. Helen worked several retail jobs before retiring. They moved back to Atlantic in 2000.

Helen is survived by her husband, Leland of Atlantic, IA; sister, Josie Curtis of Atlantic; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don and Norma Landon of Griswold, IA, Doris Landon of Plattsmouth, NE, Helen Sue Tritt of Kennesaw, GA, Harlan Landon of Tacoma, WA and Linda Landon of Betheny, OK; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Lynn Landon; her parents, Martin and Hyla Wooley; father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Grace Landon; sisters, Virginia Rothe and Dorothy Bode; brothers-in-law, Willard Rothe, Bill Bode, Dean Curtis, Duane Landon and Richard Tritt; and nephew, Don Curtis.

Visitation will be held at Hockenberry Funeral Home, Atlantic, Iowa, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2014.

The funeral service will be held at Hockenberry Funeral Home, Atlantic, also on Monday, February 17, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery following the service.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials are sent to Cass County Museum or an organization of your choice.
