Helen Marjorie Hennick

Helen Marjorie Hennick, the daughter of Roy and Laura Belle Snyder Allen, was born September 25, 1921, at her parents’ home in Viola Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died June 17, 2012, at her home in Exira, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 22 days. Helen was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Dedham, Iowa. She attended the Viola Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1939. Helen then attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa. On September 25, 1940, she was united in marriage to James J. Hennick, Jr. at the First Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. Five children James Hennick, III, Robert, Lora, Margy, and Mary were born to this union. They moved near Anita, Iowa where they farmed for five years. Helen and James then purchased a farm north of Exira in Hamlin Township. During the time they were farming, Helen helped James operate the farm and was a homemaker raising the children and tending to her garden. While farming, James studied and became an electronic technician in 1960. They opened their own repair shop first in their home and then moved the business into Exira. Later they moved the business to Audubon where they operated it until they retired in the early 1990’s. Helen helped James run the business and was the bookkeeper until they retired. They continued to enjoy gardening at their farm and selling their produce at many farmers markets in the area. They also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. James died December 24, 1996. Helen lived on the farm for a short time then built and moved into her new home in Exira in 1999. Helen was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and was a member of the Prestige Club and the Marathon Club. She liked to read and collect everything which involved chickens, Blue Willow dishes, and interior decorating. Helen was preceded in death by her husband James J, Hennick, Jr.; her sons an infant son Richard Hennick and Pastor Robert W. Hennick; her grandson Charles Smith; her son-in-law Craig Waugh; her parents; and her sisters-in-law Elva and Arnold Farstrup and Velma and Howard Coglin. Those left to cherish her memory are her children James A. Hennick, III of Exira, Iowa, Lora and husband John Smith of Pella, Iowa, Margy and husband Dave Hansen of Exira, and Mary and husband Michael Howard of Atlantic, Iowa; her daughter-in-law Linda Hennick of Exira; her grandchildren Mike and Jill Hennick of Blair, Nebraska, Mark and Liz Hennick of Kansas City, Kansas, Mitchell and Lydia Hennick of Greenville, South Carolina, Terri and Rod Harris, Betsy and Kyle Kitelinger all of Exira, Lindsey and Mike Pringle, Ryle and Lisa Smith, and Hannah and Bryan Vander Linden all of Pella, Ben and Riann Hansen of Exira, Tara and Shawn Jespersen of Cumberland, Iowa, Maigan and Jason Haley, and Jessie Waugh and her fiancé Cory Haley all of Exira; her great grandchildren River Hennick of Kansas City, Addison Hennick of Greenville, Joseph, Samantha, and Taylor Harris, and Carter, Hudson, and Sophie Kitelinger all of Exira, Dayana, Eddie, Alex, Jake, and Zach Pringle, Dara, Elisha Vander Linden all of Pella, Kate, Alex, and Jack Hansen, and Mason and Jase Haley all of Exira; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The Family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock and Pastor Glen Meyers, on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa.
