Helen Redburn

Helen M. Redburn 97, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2007, at the Colonial Manor in Anita.

Helen Marjorie Scarlett was born on January 21, 1910, in Nevada, Missouri, the daughter of John Frederick and Ella (Scholl) Scarlett.

She lived in Missouri until she was seven when her and her family moved to Anita. Helen graduated from Anita High School in 1927.
On April 6, 1933, she was married to Jerold "Jerry" Redburn in Atlantic, Iowa.

Helen worked for Lance and Cole Grocery Store, the local grocery store in Anita, for over 30 years. After time at the local grocery store she worked at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Pediatrics for 10 years. Helen also spent time taking care of and helping the elderly.

She was a member of the Anita United Methodist Church, where she was a dedicated worshiper. Helen was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star and the garden club.

Helen enjoyed traveling, reading, nature and fishing. She loved flowers and spending time in her garden.

Helen is survived by sons, Joe Redburn and his wife, Laura of Florida, and Richard Redburn and his wife, Mary of Oregon; grandchildren, Mike Redburn and his wife, Audrey, David Redburn and his wife, Maryanna, Kendall Redburn and his wife, Dorian, Randal Redburn and his wife, Suzanne, Rhonda Weaver and her husband, David, and Mindy Smoak and her husband, Tim; 16 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Fred Scarlett, Jr. of Adair, Iowa, Harold Scarlett of Omaha, Nebraska, and Edward Scarlett and his wife, Anne of Hardwick, Minnesota; sisters, Norma Williams of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mildred Sparling of Tucson, Arizona; sister-in-law, Doris Scarlett of Adair, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; brothers, Charles "Lafe" and George Scarlett; two stepmothers; sister-in-law, Iva Mae Scarlett; and brother-in-law, Carl Williams.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 27, 2007, at the Anita United Methodist Church in Anita with Pastor Bonnie Peterson officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family invites you to join them for a luncheon following the committal services at the church.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 26, 2007, with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Anita.

The family requests memorials to the Anita United Methodist Church Kitchen Fund.
