Helen Wirt, 90, of Denver, CO, (formerly of Atlantic) passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2007, in Denver, Colorado.
Helen was born on February 24, 1917, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Michael and Helen (Zbur) Petruska.
Helen grew up in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She then lived in Newark, New Jersey, where she met and married her husband, Ralph O. Wirt, in 1946. In 1947 they moved to a farm 2 ½ miles south of Panora, Iowa. Helen lived in Atlantic from 1957 to 2002, when she moved to Denver, Colorado, to be close to her daughter and family.
She spent her adult life as a homemaker with brief periods as a waitress and department store clerk.
Helen was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Murphy and her husband, Dennis of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Katherine Murphy of Boulder, Colorado, and Matthew and David Murphy of Denver, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Helen Petruska; husband, Ralph Wirt; and six brothers and sisters, Michael, Joseph, John, Ann, Mary and Elizabeth.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2007, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, with Father Dan Siepker officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service, at the church.
Committal services will be in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery followed by fellowship and refreshments in the SS Peter and Paul Parish Center.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
